Since 1997,
Mt. Hood Repertory Theatre Company has been bringing
professional theatre performances to East Multnomah County.
Over the years, we have gained a reputation for high-quality
professional productions of both classic and contemporary
plays. The Rep’s mainstay is our annual American
Classics Theatre Festival, which
features classic plays often not seen in the Portland-area.
Past American Classic Festivals have
included A Thurbur Carnival, The
Man Who Came To Dinner, Huckleberry Finn,
Inherit the Wind, and
Born Yesterday.
All these large cast plays used a mix of professionals,
students, and members of the community.

The American Classics Theatre
Festival also features more intimate plays such as
Talley’s Folly,
An Evening with H.L. Mencken, Clarence Darrow, and
even a Native American play - Walking On Turtle Island.
Another popular Festival offering is our return to the
golden era of radio with our Sunday Night By The Philco series.

During the regular fall-through-spring season, The Rep
produces a variety of smaller productions and our annual
Readers Theatre series. Readers
Theatre has become an especially popular Monday night event in
East County, allowing area residents the chance to experience
great theatrical works in a small, intimate venue featuring some
of the best actors the Portland-area has to offer.
As its mission, Mt. Hood Repertory Theatre Company is
dedicated to providing professional theatre and educational
opportunities in East Multnomah County. The President's vision
for the coming years is to build on Mt. Hood Rep's
position as a stable and respected theatre company in East
County. The Board of Directors has set
goals to foster community support, increase audiences, and
further The Rep’s financial stability.
In its alliance with
Mt. Hood Community College,
Mt. Hood Rep acts on its commitment to train the next generation
of theatre professionals by utilizing both student actors and technicians
during The Rep’s summer American
Classics Theatre Festival. This arrangement allows MHCC students the
opportunity to work side-by-side with professional actors, designers
and technicians and to learn from their experience and methods. Given that
all Festival peformances take place in the college theatres, students
are able to learn from these guest artists in surroundings they are
comfortable in.
During the 2004 regular season, The
Rep and MHCC Theatre Arts Department co-produced
Fahrenheit 451 in
conjunction with Multnomah County Library’s community reading
project, Everybody Reads.
We hope to continue to foster such cooperative efforts, with
MHCC and other institutions, in the future.
Mt. Hood Rep intends to be a driving force in the building of
a thriving cultural community in East Multnomah County. The
Board of Directors is comprised of business and theatre
professionals from East County, and The Rep is a member
of the Gresham Area Chamber of Commerce
and the Portland Area Theatre Alliance.
