In partnership with Multnomah County Library
and the Mt. Hood Community College Theatre Arts Department,
Mt. Hood Repertory Theatre Company will produce Fahrenheit 451:
The Play as part of the Library's community reading project
EVERYBODY READS.
Written by Ray
Bradbury, Fahrenheit was first published in 1953. The stage version was
created in the 1970s with The Rep's own Artistic Director, Tobias Anderson
in the lead role as Fire Captain Beatty.
The stage version takes the story in a new and compelling direction.
Bradbury wrote about the play saying, "I called all my characters out of the
shadows." He asked them "What's new since last we met in 1953? They
answered." This professional production directed by Rick Zimmer, MHCC
Theatre Arts Director, features Andersen reprising his original role and
Trish Egan, The Rep's Associate
Artistic Director as Mrs. Hudson. The cast is filled out by other professionals
and students from the college's theatre arts department.
Borders Books is providing
Ray Bradbury books and other publications, which will be available to play goers
while attending the weekend performances.
In an effort to promote MHCC's Theatre Arts Department, all proceeds from
the play will go into the department's trust account for upgrades to the
theater. Mt. Hood Rep utilizes the theater during the summer months for
their annual American Classics Theatre Festival.
"This is our way to support the college and thank them for the partnership
that is evolving between our organizations," stated Riley Caton,
Co-President of the Mt. Hood Rep board.
Be sure to join us Friday, February 20 for an elegant opening night reception
catered by Typhoon! restaurant and hosted by Fred
and Brandace Bruning.
