There's this mug, see, named Hildy Johnson.
Ace reporter for a big-time Chicago newspaper.
He's givin' up the job, see, for a dame!
That is, if his editor can't change his mind
and talk him into covering the biggest story of the year!
The MHCC Main Stage plays host to this riotous 1920's comedy about big-city corruption and
a pack of reporters who'll do anything to get the next big story!
Artistic Associate Trisha
Pancio Armour directs this Broadway
hit that virtually created the modern stereotype of the hard-drinking,
hard-boiled journalist intent on uncovering truth even in the
face of danger.
The play takes place in the pressroom at Chicago's Criminal Courts Building
on a Friday evening - and concerns a group of reporters covering a controversial
execution. Lead reporter Hildy Johnson has to make a hard choice - his old life
as a reporter or a new one as a married ad executive in New York.
Not an easy choice, it turns out, when the editor of Hildy's paper (played by
Artistic Director
Tobias Andersen) refuses to let his star reporter go... and when the
condemned man escapes and a manhunt ensues!
"The Front Page took the corsets off the American theatre."

"Loud, rapid, coarse, and unfailing entertainment!"

--Brooks Atkinson
