"Call it theatre for the ear..."

Each year, Mt. Hood Repertory Theatre Company presents East County audiences with the opportunity to experience the finest plays from leading authors in a small, intimate venue.

Readers theater has no set or costumes. There is little or no choreographed movement, and the actors carry their scripts with them. The emphasis is on the playwright's words. Stripped down to the bare essentials, the audience is transported into the world of the play by the power of language and imagination.

The form of readers theatre gives The Rep the chance to choose riskier plays which can cost much more to stage in a full production. The choice of material and shorter rehearsal time helps to attract some of the finest actors and directors from across the Portland area to East Multnomah County. All this, plus an affordable ticket gives area audiences a chance to see high-quality theatre in an entirely different way.
